Saucony’s Trainer 80: A Heritage Icon Revived with Community Spirit

Saucony is celebrating the return of its retro-inspired Trainer 80 by teaming up with two London-based communities that epitomize cultural progression: Balamii, a radio station and creative hub, and Your Friendly Runners, a collective uniting running and community spirit.

The Trainer 80, originally launched in 1978, broke ground with its innovative use of high-density EVA foam, delivering a softer and more responsive ride by eliminating the outdated cardboard layer between the sole and upper. Now reimagined, this classic blends vintage aesthetics with modern sensibilities, designed for both runners and style enthusiasts.

True to Saucony’s mantra, Run As One, the campaign celebrates shared values of creativity, inclusivity, and community. Balamii’s James Browning highlighted the alignment, noting, “This project represents everything Balamii stands for – community and talent.” Similarly, Matt Horrocks of Your Friendly Runners said, “It’s exciting to bring back a true OG style that still feels super relevant today.”

The campaign, directed by Joe Howat and produced by CANADA, channels the energy of the late 1970s and 1980s while spotlighting emerging talent. From Balamii, creatives such as CKTRL and Goya Gumbani take the stage, while Your Friendly Runners showcase figures like Oliver Hooson and Alice Davies.

The Trainer 80 is now available in vibrant and classic colourways at select retailers and on saucony.com. This release isn’t just a nod to the past—it’s a celebration of the communities shaping the future.
