John Legend Marks 20 Years of Get Lifted
John Legend is celebrating two decades of his groundbreaking debut album, Get Lifted, with a newly expanded deluxe edition out now via Legacy Recordings. First released in 2004, the album introduced the world to Legend’s genre-blurring blend of R&B, hip-hop, and soul. The 20th-anniversary edition offers fans a refreshed experience, featuring 11 bonus tracks, including remixes, B-sides, and two previously unreleased studio performances.
Collaborations on the new release spotlight a roster of talent, including Tems, Killer Mike, Lil Wayne, Simi, and Black Thought. Highlights include the "Cloud 9 Remix" of “So High” featuring Lauryn Hill and a reimagined “Ordinary People” with Tems. Additionally, tracks like “Do What I Gotta Do” and “Just In Time” delve into Legend’s original creative vision, offering a glimpse into his early artistry.
Physical collectors can look forward to two special vinyl editions. A 3LP deluxe version, signed by Legend, is slated for release on March 7, 2025, while a 2LP version with bonus content arrives December 20, 2024. Pre-orders are available now.
Reflecting on the milestone, Legend shared, “Revisiting Get Lifted and collaborating with some of my favorite artists has been an incredibly meaningful experience.”
This release comes as Legend balances other projects, including his Grammy-nominated children’s album, My Favorite Dream, and a holiday tour launching December 2. With a career spanning two decades, Get Lifted remains a cornerstone of his musical legacy, earning accolades like double platinum certification and three Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Album.
