The Unique Boutique on Channel 4
Here at The Rakish Gent, we love nothing more than seeing our family of creatives flourishing and bringing their unique eye to help others. Stylist and Creative Director David Hawkins (The World According to Isiah and MANNEQUIN - Issue 3) has taken part in a new Channel 4 series, The Unique Boutique. Open for business from 10pm on Monday 24 July, the show offers fabulous new looks for a wide range of people not served by mainstream fashion. Over four uplifting episodes produced by BBC Studios, you will see contributors for whom high street shops don’t provide and see them introduced to a unique fashion hub that caters for every possible style need.
Joining David Hawkins on the team of experts is trailblazing adaptive designer Victoria Jenkins; stylist and model Triple Minor (also known as Georgie) and fashionista and body confidence coach Natalie Alexis Lee. The real joy of the show is seeing a whole squad of inclusive fashion designers, stylists, tailors and dressmakers hear each person’s candid story about the challenges they’ve faced finding clothing from conventional retailers – be they physical, psychological or financial – before creating an especially adapted outfit to match each person’s individual taste and needs. In episode one we see separated dad Huw who wants a new look to help rekindle his love life and a style that works for him as an ambulatory wheelchair user. Stylist David assembles an ensemble with cleverly added adaptations in a bid to boost Huw’s confidence to date again.
