The Closet - Teo van den Broeke

The editorial director of Soho House, and former style director of British GQ and Esquire, Teo van den Broeke has just this week released his debut memoir. The Closet is a memoir of self-discovery, and tells the story of how an LGBTQ+ teen grew up gay in the nineties and found himself through fashion.

Given his previous roles, it is no surprise that fashion has played a huge role in Teo’s life, as well as being an outlet that allowed him to better understand himself and the world around him. The Closet is a memoir of some of the pieces that influenced him most, using the wardrobe of his past as a lens through which to explore the myriad trials and tribulations of adolescence - from the blue princess dress he coveted as a child, that first led him to question whether he was ‘normal’, through to the Nike cap and Gucci loafers he wore to impress the men he first desired.

Charting a growth from uncertainty to self-acceptance, The Closet is guaranteed to resonate with anyone who grew up unsure of who they are or what they should be doing with their lives.
