As the most talked about show on TV in recent years, Bridgerton is perfect as a platform for many young, new actors. Jonathan Jude is just one of the talented young men that star in the Netflix show, having previously appeared in Sky One’s Living The Dream, and the Netflix film Close. On top of that he has also worked as a model and appeared on appearances in the West End.
What was it like to work on a production as big as Bridgerton?
Unreal to be honest. Even the costume fitting was incredible. I got to build the costume with the designers, choosing between different materials and colors all the way subtle details like the pocket watch.
The set builds were stunning. Stepping on set felt like going back in time. I have to say it’s the nicest cast I’ve ever worked with, the actors were lovely and welcoming. I think all the credit goes to Kelly Valentine-Hendry on that.
What attracted you to a career as an actor?
I don’t really know, I guess the only answer I have is that I’m greedy, not in the food way (even though I do love food) in the sense that I never wanted to just do one thing with my life. I’ve always been a bit restless and I want to explore as many walks of life as I can while I’m here and acting is one of the best ways to do that… if that makes any sense.
Was production affected by the pandemic?
It’s funny I was talking about this the other day with a friend. So when I was on set around early January 2020, we all started to get emails from production about this ‘novel coronavirus’ and that they were stepping up safety measures… and they were so on top of it. But in all honesty everyone was so oblivious to it and we all carried on as if nothing was happening. Little did we all know what was coming for us.
In terms of the actually production I don’t think it was significantly affected like cinema releases were/are… when will we get to see James Bond!
How have you kept yourself sane and busy during lockdowns?
Barely. I and I’m sure you have had those insane days when you think ‘shall I just stay in bed all day’ or ‘when Will this end’ while crying into your pillow… cause you’re still in bed. I’ve turned to writing. My debut in writing came with Him and Her and was received really well and I got a buzz for it. I also play the guitar so I’m really trying to improve, right now I’m learning all of The Beatles Please, Please Me album.
I also fricken love working out.. Joe Wicks has been the savior to my soul in that department.
What are you working on now and next?
Right now I’m working on a film called The Only Boy In The Town. It’s an epic story but I can’t say much about it. Along with some other projects. It’s all hush hush which is rather boring. I’m also a St John’s Vaccine Volunteer, so I could be vaccinating you, you lucky thing. They are desperate for more people to help so if you want to join.
And finally, what makes a rakish gent?
It’s someone who’s kind, doesn’t take themselves too seriously and looks after the planet.
