Officine Universelle Buly opens new Japan store
Officine Universelle Buly, renowned for its distinct architectural approach, has launched a new boutique in Tokyo's Azabudai Hills, a decade after its inaugural Rue Bonaparte location. This store embraces a fusion of historical and contemporary design, notably inspired by the “Halles de Paris”. Set against Azabudai's modern backdrop, the boutique’s dark hues contrast sharply with the area’s vibrancy.
Inside, the shop continues Buly’s tradition of celebrating French craftsmanship, featuring work from painters, cabinet-makers, and other artisans. The design incorporates classical elements such as wooden columns and sculpted arches, alongside modern materials like brushed steel ceilings. This blend of old and new is a hallmark of the store, aiming to be more than just a retail space but a cultural ambassador of France.
The boutique also introduces an innovative display for its products, including a central horseshoe-shaped counter made from black Barbençon marble and semi-circular glass display cabinets that add a touch of Romanesque artistry. These elements, alongside the dual-toned lacquer paintwork that shifts from Empire green to earthy Sienna, highlight Buly’s commitment to creating a captivating shopping experience that challenges conventional design norms.
