New Balance releases first Grey Days film
In support of Grey Day, New Balance has released their first ever short film.
Today marks the official release of the seven-minute film by new imprint American Haiku celebrating Grey’s origin as the signature New Balance colour. Shot and framed in 16mm black and white, Grey Days is a journey through New Balance history that explores the brand’s running heritage and its popularity in style subcultures from the DMV to Tokyo, through the lens of longtime enthusiasts, and features appearances by UK Rapper Dave, star defensive end Chase Young, and skateboarding legend Andrew Reynolds.
New Balance introduced the colour Grey intentionally in service of building a superior running shoe in the 1980s. Grey is rooted in NB’s performance heritage, born from a functional need (a solution for city runners not wanting their, then white, shoes to look visibility dirty), but evolved into an important cultural signifier impacting consumers across many facets since the late 70’s. This year , New Balance launch classics like the 327, 574, 550, and a selection of timeless Grey apparel.
