Mark's Club Reopens Its Doors
Mark's Club, the iconic private members' club in Mayfair, has reopened following a carefully curated refurbishment. Since its founding in 1972 as an alternative to the traditional St. James’s gentlemen’s clubs, Mark’s Club has maintained its reputation for exclusivity and British sophistication. The renovation, led by Richard Caring, aimed to modernize the club while preserving its historic character.
The redesign begins at the entrance, where members are welcomed through the familiar Charles Street door, now accentuated by oak flooring. The townhouse, home to Old Master paintings, features the addition of a George Stubbs piece, placed prominently by the entrance. Members will also recognize the cherished Mark’s Club clock, an English Fusse from the 1900s, displayed near the painting.
Inside, the ground floor has adopted an open-plan layout, transforming the Living Room into a light-filled yet private space. With a Morris & Co print on the walls and an original fireplace rediscovered during renovations, the area offers daytime refreshments and a cocktail menu by night. This setting complements the classic British atmosphere for which the club is known.
Dining at Mark's Club remains a centerpiece of the experience. The updated Dining Room, along with a newly added Greenhouse, provides silver-service dining for up to 26 guests. The menu is a celebration of British cuisine, featuring club staples like Mark’s Club Chicken Pie and Prawn Curry, alongside specialties such as Loch Duart Smoked Salmon and Dover Sole, carved tableside. Wine enthusiasts can explore a selection of 60 wines by the glass, along with Aged Clarets and Italian offerings, guided by expert sommeliers.
The Greenhouse, seating 22, is designed as a tranquil, plant-filled retreat with a retractable glass ceiling. Open year-round, it offers the same refined menu as the Dining Room and will soon introduce afternoon tea in its lush surroundings.
On the first floor, the Bar has been refreshed, with the Head Bartender curating a new cocktail menu featuring creations like the Mark’s Margarita. Adjacent spaces like the Drawing Room offer a relaxed environment for socializing, while the Games Room retains its charm with classic backgammon sets.
The First Floor Terrace remains a hub for cigar enthusiasts, with an extensive cigar program and a humidor housing rare selections. A more casual dining experience is also available here, with a tailored menu featuring items like Exmoor Caviar and Petit Fours.
For private events, Mark’s Club offers two reimagined dining rooms, The Country Room and The Portrait Room, each seating over 14 guests. Both spaces are tailored for personal gatherings and business events, offering bespoke services.
