If Timothée Chalamet has taught us anything, it is that red carpet dressing for men is very much alive. Kaushik Velendra has just taking that further, with a collection that shows it is every bit as interesting as a vintage Dior dress.

During the designer’s London Fashion Week Mens presentation, press were treated to artisans displaying all of the skills of the atelier. Embroiderers worked on delicate details, with models dressing and waiting to be given final approval before travelling down the runway. These clothes are made for the red carpet and it was natural that it was here to where models went next.

Glamour in a modern and sophisticated way was essence of this collection. Displaying all the hallmarks of classic tailoring, those elegant silhouettes were also inspired by sportswear DNA, underlined by the way that seams were placed to drape and accentuate the figure.

Traditional Indian embroidery techniques, collaborated with the lauded atelier Vastrakala, were juxtaposed with space-age fabrications like magnetic zips and a heat-reactive felt want moulds over the shoulders’ contours, eliminating the need for traditional padding. The shoulder moulds, intended to show off a masculine shape, elongated proportions and bold design, were the most striking takeaway from the collection, which charted new territory for contemporary menswear.
