A few months back (7 months ago to be precise) we were raving about Old Spitalfields Market and how it is quietly become one of London’s premier shopping destinations with a great selection of unique boutiques and a focus on keeping their East London heritage alive. We recently were lucky enough to sample just a few of the very many food offerings that Old Spitalfields Market boasts and we could not recommend it enough. Here's a very brief rundown of just some of the best places , although to enjoy them properly you should properly go see for yourself ….

Wright Brothers

An atmospheric setting to enjoy “sea to plate” dining. Sip on a signature Bloody Mary as you see your shellfish being prepared in the marble oyster bar or enjoy one of the many signature seafood dishes in the intimate booths within the restaurant. The menu created by head Chef Richard Kirkwood features the finest fish, seafood and oysters from England, Ireland, Scotland, France and the Channel Islands, served naked or dressed. Just some of the spectacular small dishes to choose from include Hebridean scallop ceviche, stone bass poke with mirin pickled cucumber and Metal mussels in white wine, garlic and parsley.

Tre Rote

Meaning “three wheels” in Italian, Tre Rote essentially is amazing Italian food served by two best friends in a small, very cute, blue van with three wheels. The focus is on quality, homemade food prepared with the best seasonal and fresh ingredients.

Federico and Francesco wanted people to experience good quality street food whilst also cooking the best pasta possible, in the way that Italians would in their home kitchens. Basic ingredients like pasta, organic extra virgin olive oil, regional cheeses and canned tomatoes are regularly shipped from Italy and each dish is prepared in front of the customer with fresh ingredients.

cafe caribbean 3.jpg

Café Caribbean

Started in 1993, Cafe Caribbean’s recipes are all influenced by the chef’s mother’s homeland of Content District, St Catherine, Jamaica. The restaurant aims to recreate those family recipes and unique way of cooking in a new and original way.

Incredibly popular with regulars and local workers and shoppers in East London at lunchtime, the food is prepared and cooked freshly on the premises each day and the huge menu is bound to have something to cater for your tastes (along with the right level of space that you can handle)

blixen 2.jpg

Blixen

Located on the edge of Old Spitalfields Market in a converted bank, Blixen is a restaurant in the style of the European grand cafés, with a focus on beautiful design, consistent quality and the true spirit of hospitality.

The lovely spot is open 7 days a week, offering brunch, lunch & dinner, complemented by an eclectic wine list, exceptional cocktails & a range of private dining and events spaces. Look out for the stunning conservatory which is full of plants and is a wonderful escape from the buzz of the city.

bleeker 1.jpg

Bleeker Burger

The London streetfood scene was in its infancy and it was starting to gain attention when Bleeker Burger first arrived on the scene. The idea was simple: produce the best burger possible in an approachable setting. Burgers are all about the beef so it makes sense that Bleeker use rare-breed, pasture-fed beef from small farms in the UK. It is dry-aged, giving it an intense, beefy flavour.
