Exhibit: Beyond Fashion at Saatchi Gallery

Victoria Beckham by Juergen Teller for Marc Jacobs

An Exhibition Redefining Fashion Photography

Beyond Fashion is an extraordinary exhibition showcasing the transformative power of fashion photography. This collection moves beyond mere product presentation, capturing the essence of modern life, exploring human aspirations, and pushing creative boundaries.

Featuring iconic photographers such as Nick Knight, Peter Lindbergh, Viviane Sassen, Paolo Roversi, Miles Aldridge, and Ellen von Unwerth, the exhibition also highlights a new generation of talent. Beyond Fashion celebrates these visionaries, demonstrating how fashion photography has evolved into a compelling visual language.

The exhibition is divided into four sections: Allure, Fantasy, Realism, and Surrealism. It charts the journey of fashion photography from the controlled environment of studios to the spontaneous realm of street photography. Visitors will encounter a diverse array of styles, from classic VOGUE covers to avant-garde images like Victoria Beckham’s legs in a Marc Jacobs shopping bag.

In addition to over 100 photographs, the exhibition features a segment on moving images, emphasizing the role of film in contemporary fashion. Notable contributions include works from SHOWstudio, directed by Nick Knight, a pioneer in using digital film to showcase fashion.

The experience concludes with "Under Your Smell," an innovative installation by ECAL students, offering a visual interpretation of Jean Paul Gaultier’s perfumes. This segment merges scent and imagery to create stories of transgression and fantasy.

Curated by Nathalie Herschdorfer, Director of Photo Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, and produced by the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography, Beyond Fashion is a testament to the artistry and dynamic evolution of fashion photography.
