E. Tautz SS19

Words by Taj Hayer

“Give me a future” was the message that came loud and clear at Patrick Grant’s presentation of the E. Tautz SS19 collection.

Cheekily thanking press for “coming behind the scenes of our lookbook shoot” at Congress Hall in London, E. Tautz is a brand that thinks carefully about all of the components that make up their beautiful clothes. Concentrating on re=-establishing a supply chain in the UK, the clothes were created in Lancashire, where the E. Tautz factory is located. Those looking at the pieces close-up couldn’t help but get the Brexit reference - Grant was a vocal supporter of the Remain movement and responded to the confusing state of affairs with a collection that felt thoroughly British.

The shapes were classic E. Tautz - oversized and boxy shaped jackets, roomy trousers inspired by uniforms and wide legged shorts as well as a superb rain-mac with contrasting shades on the hood. No-one quite does denim like E. Tautz and for spring we saw the familiar supersized jeans with cinched waists vibing military garments from the Fifties.

The newness for spring came via a sherbet, sweet shop invoking selection of colours. Lemon, light green, rose pink and cream white were all new and felt fresh after several seasons of navy, black, grey and white. Never seen before by the brand, and a standout, was the sweatshirt with the slogan “Be united and industrious” and amazing, vintage graphics topstitched onto the sweat.
