Luke Derrick’s spring/ summer 2025 catwalk show was one of the highlights of London Fashion Week, as the designer presented his signature blend of practical elegance and street-inspired tailoring.
The 28-year-old designer, known for his imposing height and thoughtful approach to clothing, showcased a range of pieces that felt grounded in the lived experience of London’s diverse urban landscape.
The collection drew inspiration from Derrick’s late-night commutes through the city which naturally resulted in tailored tracksuits (an immediate, need-it-now item) cardigan jackets, oversized raglan coats, and tuxedo-striped cargo trousers. Many of these garments were crafted from Hainsworth cloth, traditionally used in the red uniforms of the Queen’s Guard which is rather a sweet nod to British heritage with a modern twist and a real appreciation for British craftsmanship and tailoring. The show’s atmospheric staging, featuring streetlamp-style lighting, evoked the mood of London’s streets after dark.
The spring collection highlighted Derrick’s focus on pragmatism and versatility. Technical nylons were used to craft pieces that could be easily packed without losing their shape, a feature particularly appealing to the modern, on-the-go man. Standout items included semi-transparent cotton office shirts, Nehru-collared waterproofs, and trousers with side piping, designed with a commuter’s lifestyle in mind.
Derrick's attention to the details of everyday London life was evident throughout the collection. From viscose scarves reminiscent of Moroccan shemaghs to glossy lounge sets that echoed the ease of a grey tracksuit, his designs blended various cultural influences with a distinct British sensibility. The soundtrack, featuring recordings from Derrick’s commutes, reinforced the connection between his designs and the streets of East London.
With this collection, Derrick continues to build on his vision of creating a wardrobe that evolves with each season, reflecting the changing rhythms of city life.
