For autumn 2018, Christopher Raeburn’s Immerse collection, stayed true to his key design ethos of innovative clothing with an environmental consciousness. This time, the focus was on the ocean, developing a concept of protecting both the man and the planet. As we have come to expect from Raeburn, sustainable materials were used throughout. 

Those materials include protective neoprene immersion suits, Air Force coveralls and blankets from the Russian & Danish Naval forces. Of course, he also reworked his iconic, trademark parachute pieces. These materials were used to great drama with outerwear, which was a prominent feature. Overcoats and bombers appeared in steel grey, deep blue and bright orange with details including detachable gloves and emergency whistles (great if you are stuck out all alone in the ocean). A particularly memorable piece was the reworked coverall with chunky asymmetrical zip.  

Much needed winter insulation was provided by a selection of puffer jackets, Macs and anoraks, style with cargo pants and parkas. There was also a great selection of basics with T-shirts, hoodies and joggers from organic cotton for supreme comfort. The slogan “Remade, Reduced, Recycled, Raeburn” appeared throughout on statement black straps. It was moist effective on a very cool helicopter emergency back that was actually a satchel. 

Raeburn has become respected and well known for his commitment to sustainability but also criticised for a lack of progression in his designs. For autumn, the familiar camo pieces made way for a rakish checked wool in cashmere, from the aforementioned Russian navy blankets.
