Blood Brother AW18
For their very first catwalk show, Blood Brother looked to reflect on 20 years of The National Lottery and the obsessive hopes that all of our dreams could come true with 7 simple numbers.
We live in a world that is full to the brim with excess. The lottery is loaded with expectancy to get rich quick, to throw off the shackles of work and to live a better, richer, more satisfied life. The millennial generation are quick to show off monogramed swimming pools, helicopters and all of the other instantly gratifying goods that a quick win can get you. There is, of course, a sinister side to that world though, and it was this that most inspired the autumn collection.
It’s been an impressive few months for Blood Brother, with continued accolades in the industry and more exposure than ever before following collaborations with Liberty London and River Island. The new collection developed these previous offerings with more graphic prints in the form of scratch cards, player receipts and slogans like “Money Bags” and “Hot Tub Club”.
The excessive lifestyle of the rich and famous would see men donning extravagant satin suits in retro jewel colours, the best of which was a deep, emerald green. The collection also featured more excess in the form of 80s’ ski wear, exotic animal prints, diamond quilted puffa jackets (especially desirable for editors running around shows in the brisk January weather) and a number of vintage apres-ski looks. Clashing animal prints, faux fur and snakeskin with the trademark repeat Swarovski crystal embellishment on white denim helped to complete the look of the gangster with a penchant for life in the fast lane.
Accessories helped to finish off the look (and incidentally help the cash poor get some small insight into the life of a superstar) with cross body bags reminiscent of stash-cash bags and luminous yellow and gold scarves, hats and scarves.
A superb first catwalk show for a brand that understands the ath-lesiure world and is not afraid to give their unique brand of sports luxury, a touch of the tongue in cheek.
