Band of Outsiders AW18

It takes something quite big and beautiful to get the fashion pack to stand outdoors, next to an open air ice rink in early January and to not complain about doing it. The Band of Outsiders autumn presentation managed to do this, even drawing admiring oohs and aahs.

Set in front of the impressive backdrop of London’s Somerset House, the third collection between brand director Daniel Hettmann and design director Angelo van Mol was the evolution of a familiar theme. Band of Outsiders are one of the worlds best brands for unpretentious athleusurewear full of nuanced, seasonal references. For autumn that meant vibing apres-ski, shearling lined bombers and polar bear pyjama trousers (especially fantastic in burgundy). The disco soundtrack of early Micheal Jackson and Marvin Gaye, and the pro hockey and ice skaters as models (they smile a lot more than normal models) only helped to up the cool factor a several notches. Nostalgia can be a beautiful feeling when done right, and here the clothes and the way that they were presented evoked happy memories of snow days, school closures and pyjama parties.

In what has been the brands strongest offering in years, colours and fabrics were bang on for the season. Berry red, emerald green (used to superb effect on a lush velvet suit) worked incredibly well against the ice snow. Fabrics were functional and comfortable with long john track pants and matching jackets and soft as anything fur collars. New for winter comes a collaboration with Swedish raincoat specialists Stutterheim, who developed a rubber navy raincoat with white stripes which we would wear all year round.
