Astrid Andersen AW18
Photography by Nicholas Andrews.
Danish designer Astrid Andersen looked back to Buffalo-era London for her autumn collection, which paid homage to how the movement has impacted on her designs.
Throwing back to the Eighties, the collection featured iconic imagery from the era by photographer Mark Lebon of Jeny Howarth. Referencing the Eighties is frankly, nothing new, but the way that Andersen did it was. It was refreshing and intelligent - devoid of bankers, wide shoulders, chalk stripes and tacky prints, instead the focus was on the streets and an unpretentious movement.
Creating a relatable and fun collection, there were a number of diverse looks that broke the rules. Think of a man searching for fun and adventure, that wears what he wants, and doesn’t care about what he wears. Fabrics used were eclectic and unique - colourful silk jacquard, custom printed silk and technical puffers. New from Astrid Andersen and fantastic to see was the introduction of unexpected tweeds, tartan and glitter organza.
